Using a TxTag sticker
Where can I use a TxTag sticker?
As long as you have sufficient funds in your TxTag account*, you may use your tag on most toll roads in Texas. Just look for the TxTag logo or the following symbols:
In future, your TxTag sticker may be used to pay fees for crossing international bridges and for parking at airports and garages, but this functionality is not currently available. View maps of toll roads throughout Texas which accept the TxTag technology.
* Please see the License and Use Agreement to determine the amount of funds you will need in your TxTag account in order to use your tag on toll roads throughout the state.
What can I expect when traveling through a toll lane?
There are two types of toll lanes, Express Lanes and Toll Plaza Lanes:
 |
Express Lanes: Express lanes accept tags only. Devices above the toll lanes read an electronic signal from your tag as you pass through, and deduct the required toll from your prepaid account. Express lanes look like regular lanes on a highway and allow drivers to maintain highway speeds while paying the toll electronically. These lanes do not have toll booths, coin machines or toll lane lights. |
Toll Plaza Lanes: These lanes are for vehicles without toll tags, and have toll booths or coin machines. However, you can use your tag in these lanes if you see a sign with the TxTag symbol or other tag logos shown above. Some of these lanes have toll lane lights that give you information about your TxTag account status. Please see the section below for details. |

What Toll Lane Lights Mean
Some toll lanes have lights that give you information about your TxTag account status, but these lights are not present on all toll roads. Generally, you’ll find these lights on lanes with a toll booth or a coin machine. Sometimes there may be two lights used to indicate account information and sometimes you will see three lights.
Keep in mind that Express Lanes do not display toll lane lights.
Here is what the lights mean:
 |
Green Light:
Your tag has been read and your account has been charged. Keep driving. |
 |
Amber Light:
An amber/yellow light indicates a low account balance. Keep driving but contact the TxTag Customer Service Center as soon as possible to add funds to your account. |
 |
Red Light:
Your TxTag account has no funds or your tag is not working. Stop at the toll booth/coin machine and pay cash to avoid a possible violation. Continue to pay cash until you contact the TxTag Customer Service Center to add funds to your account or resolve the issue. |
 |
No Light:
If no light comes on, your TxTag account may not have funds or your tag may not be working.
If you do not see a light, please pay cash until you contact TxTag Customer Service Center to add funds to your account or resolve the issue. If you receive a Notice of Toll Violation, the TxTag Customer Service Center will be able to assist you. |
