I drove on the toll roads and have not received a bill in the mail. What should I do?
Drivers without a TxTag should receive a bill in the mail within three weeks of using a toll road in Austin or Tyler. If you haven’t received a bill, it may be because the address on your vehicle title is not current. You should contact the Texas Tollways Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824 (International: 001-512-874-9998) immediately to avoid getting a violation for your unpaid toll. To update your vehicle title information, download the Notice of Address Change Form VTR-146.
Can I use my tag in more than one vehicle?
No. Since your TxTag sticker must be permanently mounted on your windshield, it can only be used in one vehicle and should not be moved between vehicles. If you have more than one vehicle in your household, you can order additional TxTags and manage them on one registered account.
What if I sell my vehicle?
Call the Customer Service Center right away to deactivate your TxTag so your account is not linked to a vehicle you no longer own. If you purchase a new vehicle, you will need to call the TxTag Customer Service Center to request a new TxTag and update your account, whether or not you choose to keep your existing plates. Even though your vehicle has been sold, you are liable for toll charges until the title is transferred to the new owner or until you submit a motor vehicle transfer notification.
If you receive a bill, please download the transfer notification form VTR-346, and call us at 1-888-468-9824 (International: 001-512-874-9998) once you receive confirmation that the transfer notification has been received by the Vehicle Titles and Registration (VTR) Division of the Texas Department of Transportation, which should take 5-7 business days. After confirmation of transfer, the Customer Service Center can remove the sold vehicle from your account.
What if my vehicle is stolen?
If your vehicle is stolen, you should contact the Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824 (International: 001-512-874-9998) right away. Otherwise, you may be responsible for charges to your TxTag account. A copy of the police report will be requested in order to remove the stolen vehicle from your account.
Can I use a tag in a rental vehicle?
Though you cannot place a TxTag sticker on the windshield of a rental vehicle, your TxTag account can be used to pay your tolls. Simply call the Customer Service Center prior to driving the road and a representative will assist you.
Please be aware that Avis®, Budget® and Hertz® use a program called PlatePass®. If you added your rental vehicle to your TxTag account, but were charged by PlatePass®, please call PlatePass® Customer Service at 1-877-411-4300. They should waive the service fee and reduce your tolls to the TxTag rate.
Please keep a copy of your rental vehicle agreement and receipt to ensure tolls are charged properly.
Can I use my tag if I’m pulling a trailer with my vehicle?
Yes. Sensors in the road will detect the trailer and take the additional charge for the trailer from your account.
Can motorcycles use TxTag stickers?
Motorcycles use a different type of TxTag than those used on cars and trucks. If you have a motorcycle, please contact the Customer Service Center to request a motorcycle tag. Please note that there is a deposit for motorcycle tags.
Can I add a TxTag sticker to my existing NTTA or HCTRA toll account?
No. While the tags are interoperable on the roadways, different tag types may not be placed on one account. If you would like to add a tag to your existing account, please contact your existing toll agency.
When can I contact the Customer Service Center?
The TxTag Customer Service Center is open to assist you Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You may call 1-888-468-9824 (International: 001-512-874-9998), or visit our walk-up counters in Austin at 12719 Burnet Road.
Can I use my Dallas TollTag or Houston EZ TAG in TxTag Lanes?
Yes. Dallas TollTags and Houston EZ TAGs work in toll lanes that display the TxTag logo throughout the state. Be sure to keep all of your account information current to avoid potential fees.
I got a green and a yellow toll lane light at the same time. What does that mean?
It means that you have a low account balance, but enough funds to pay the toll at that ramp or plaza. You may continue driving, but you should add funds to your TxTag account as soon as possible to avoid a violation.
When will TxDOT start charging the $9.65 tag fee?
The date for instituting the tag fee has not been determined. At this time, customers receive the first replacement tag for free, with any subsequent tags at a cost of $9.65.
